2016 – Reflecting on last year:

2016 was a good year for us, here at UrbanWorkSpace.

We completed the new block at Branston Court Business Centre. The block is doing well and has many companies running out of it as we speak. We still have some availability in the new block. Act quick if you are interested as offices are being rented quick. View Branston Court Business Centre by clicking here.

Our brand new official website went live! The updated site brings a modern twist and an upgrade to the company. You can visit the new official UrbanWorkSpace website at www.urbanworkspace.com. For a full rundown of the new site click here – The Brand New UrbanWorkSpace Official Website Is Now Live!!!

We revamped the look of our boardroom in Steward Street Business Lofts. By dividing the space into three we have created 3 boardrooms available for hire instead of the original 1. All rooms feature upcycled boardroom tables, plasma TV’s and blinds. To see the process behind creating these tables visit our previous post – Our Brand New Pallet Boardroom Tables!

The offices in all locations are continuing to do well.

2017 & Beyond:

We are looking at improving all locations under the UrbanWorkSpace umbrella. In 2016 we began work on cladding and insulating our Steward Street Business Lofts location. The work will be completed in 2017. Once completed our offices will retain the heat better making each office warmer than before.

Also we have already begun planning a 4th floor on Steward Street Business Lofts. The work should commence in 2017 and once completed will feature offices of all sizes. A new floor will allow us to bring more businesses into UrbanWorkSpaces we hope from 2017 and beyond.

We have improved internet services at Branston Court and are looking into further improvements to the centre.

Work continues on both the Brandeaur project and Pype Hayes Hall projects. Both projects remain on target. You can read our previous blog posts on both projects by clicking each of the links below:

The new website features great improvements on the last. We have a brand new user interface and design which should represent and bring the modern style of our premises online.

I’ve been doing a little bit of research on the heritage of some of our properties in preparation for a new website we’re creating celebrating the heritage of our beloved Birmingham and I’ve discovered a few interesting and mysterious stories about our brand new project, Pype Hayes Hall in Erdington.

Pype Hayes Hall is a very historic building as shown above. Pype Hayes Hall is a grade II listed building located in Erdington, Birmingham. Pype Hayes Hall was originally a mansion that was owned by the Arden family and then the Bagot family. It was sold to the Birmingham City Council in the 1920’s who in turn used the historic location as a children’s home. Last year, UrbanWorkSpace owner Gerry Pountney bought Pype Hayes Hall.

The current owner, Gerald Pountney (pictured below) plans on not only redeveloping the location but also plans to turn Pype Hayes Hall into a 4 star luxury hotel featuring 60 bedrooms, a spa, swimming pools and much, much more.

It is another great location that has been added to an already impressive portfolio of buildings across Birmingham. Gerald Pountney owns property throughout Birmingham including 4 business centres and 2 pubs. Click here to view the completed and ongoing projects by Mr. Gerry Pountney including Pype Hayes.

Gerry has redeveloped both Steward Street Business Lofts in Ladywood and Branston Court located in the heart of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter which can be found by clicking here. With a successful history of redeveloping projects in Birmingham, Gerry Pountney is looking forward to completing the redevelopment and making Pype Hayes Hall a success as well!

The vision for the venue is also for Pype Hayes Hall to be able to host events. Gerald Manton (Gerry Pountney’s son) has stated that he plans on getting married at the famous hall to Sareena Jones once the redevelopment has been completed. It will be the perfect way to kick off this new era of Pype Hayes Hall.

Recently, we have redeveloped a section of office space in our Branston Court location. Work commenced on the new project at Branston at the start of the year. After a lot of hard work and many hours our team has managed to complete the redevelopment and have refurbished two floors of office space at Branston Court.

The newly refurbished office space is available now. All new offices have been purposely designed to suit new and up and coming businesses with the new offices varying in size with everything from solo offices up to 4 person offices available with prices ranging from £300.00 to £600.00 pcm + vat.

Branston Court shown above is located in Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter and is owned by UrbanWorkSpace, a family owned and run company originating from the Birmingham area. The Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham is a fantastic and historic location to work from everyday with many great visuals and businesses to draw inspiration from.

Often working in an office space environment can bring both its positives and negatives. Working from home has to many distractions so your office is a necessity. Everyone should want to go to work every morning and improving your office space can improve morale of your staff and improve your efficiency.

Below are 5 tips to improve your work space:

  1.  Create A Vision Board3845d5ea8812698e77e802f0cbb1032cRather than have sticky notes all over your office or piles of paper buy a white board or pin board. Having a visual reminder as you walk in to your office everyday can help you not only remember tasks you may have forgotten but can also inspire and motivate staff to complete objectives. Writing your business goals on the board is also a clever way to keep you motivated and your staff focused.
  2. Give Yourself Enough Space – Nothing in an office is worse than too much clutter as you may lose important documents or forget information you need. Therefore throw away anything that doesn’t need to be there such as loose paper and notes. If you have a small office do you need the amount of desks you have? Do you have all the space you need? Having more space will allow everyone in the office more freedom.
  3. Represent Your Business – Make sure your business is well represented upon entry  of the office. You want any potential client to be impressed so if you have worked on a project big or small have it represented in the office via e.g a photograph of said project. This not only gives a good impression of what your business can do, it also opens up for more conversation between yourself and potential business partners.
  4. Have A Water Cooler – Hydration is key to a vibrant and engaged workforce. Having a water machine in the office is important as it keeps the staff healthy and hydrated also improving their energy levels daily. It is not only a good place for employees to meet and talk over ideas but a way to keep everyone focused.
  5. Style Your Office To Your Personality – Brighten up your office space with new decor and tailor it to you or your business style. If the walls are dull give the room a boost with a new paint colour or hang a few pictures. Art or even memorabilia is a fantastic way to showcase your personality and give out the impression you would want.
